Fitting a Standalone to a AVCS 2004 WRX Motor?
Hi Guys,
I am fitting a standalone to my 04 JDM WRX Racecar.
Although the information I have found on the internet is not very clear I am pretty sure this engines comes with AVCS, can anyone confirm this? Is there a phisical easy way to check this?
If it does what is needed to fit a standalone ECU? Can it just be left alone? Or does it need deleting?
Thanks in advance for any info you guys have.

most good standalones will work the AVCS cams no problem (link G4+, syvecs, simtek etc. all have AVCS support). The 04 JDM wrx should have it and you'll definitely be wanting to keep it if it does.
You can physically check for the presence of AVCS cams and avcs solenoids to confirm that's what you have.

Thanks for your reply.
I have confirmed that the car definitely has AVCS. I removed the manifold last night and can now see the solenoids/valves.
I have purchased a Perfect Power ECU mostly because it is what everyone at my local Motorsport club is running and they have agents here who have a dyno so they do the tune/map aswell.
I have asked if it is compatible with AVCS just waiting for a reply.
How much do you think it helps? Is it not more a economical thing more than anything? It is a full race car and will be trailered to events
Thanks.

looking at the closest thing I can find to a spec sheet on their website:
https://www.perfectpower.com/index.p...-perfect-power
it doesn't seem that capable compared to other standalones, but if that's all they can offer to map it with and that's who you want to use then that's what your getting.
As for how much having AVCS helps, in my own opinion I think it's worth having - not just for economy but for improving power across the revs. In my experience AVCS equipped cars make a little more than their non-avcs equipped counterparts.
