Hi guys, am relatively new to scoobys, have owned a modified wagon, was actually the wifes supposedly running 280bhp which seemed genuine, but deep down to be honest am an evo person.
Anyway, just sold my evo to free up a bit of cash, and about to buy another scooby since recently getting addicted to track days.
half looking at classics, or maybe 2001 shape, then there are alot better deals out there for wagons.
my evo was running 343bhp and i loved it, having owned a 280 wagon, i would love to see around 300bhp for some track fun.
the idea is to use whatever i buy till about february, then buy maybe a rangey sport, and go full on track car with whatever i buy.
the question is, what sort of mods do i need to get circa 300bhp? its not the be all and end all. my evo was very heavy having a monster sound system installed, so by the time i strip out a scooby, it will probably be on par as standard anyway round a track. i wont be throwing ridiculous amounts of money to get horsepower, but i do like my poke.
also can any of you give any info on ppp, i have looked over the web but it appears to vary massively, i am half looking a high miler wagon on ebay, 2003 with ppp. cheap fun and relatively practical car?

Welcome. Always good to see a fresh face. 
300bhp isn't too difficult in a subaru, although most of the standard smaller turbos like the TD04 will tend to max out at 270-280bhp. You can get a special billet TD04 that will just about crack 300bhp but they will still struggle realistically. For 270bhp you won't need a lot of mods either. To get above 300 you'll need more like bigger VF turbo, STI TMIC, under tray, fuel pump, injectors, filter exhaust, downpipe & map.
Have a look at the guide below, it's very useful. Some of the older links don't work but they have been put back in later pages. I have a copy of the guide I can always send if required.

have been gathering a little more info today after finally handing over the keys to my baby!!!!!
also wondering what the blocks etc can withstand. I don’t mind a bit of fabrication ie fmic and the like. Never really touched wifeys classic wagon other than an airflow meter and the silly little springs under the gearstick!!! Hers had a lot of sti stuff on it.
Still, at the moment for the first time in 21 years I don’t own a single car!!! (Rare for me to have less than 2 or 3!!!!!)

My advice is to drive as many cars as possible - both WRX and STI, Atleast 2 of each and get a feel for which car suits you best. the gearing and power delivery is quite different between the two cars.
If you're doing track work then i'd tend towards the STI for the bigger brakes and 6 speed box. However, if you go WRX there are good aftermarket alternatives out there for brakes. Or as above you can just swap in STI bits as you like. .
