Default Grimmspeed vs Perrin air/oil seperator

I wanna get an air/oil seperator but I can’t decide which one to go for from the above 2. Anyone running either a Perrin or grimmspeed one ? And your opinions on them ?.

cheers

Yeah they are more expensive as always. But too be fair the build quality of the grimmspeed doesn’t look too bad.

i like the idea of catch cans but the only thing that puts me off is that I’d need to empty them every so often, I wanna make my life as easy as possible too be honest. and personally I think that the air/oil seperator unit is a better option for me.

http://shop.scoobyclinic.com/index.p...product_id=650

so £362

https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/subar...eparators.html

£320

for me £40 difference isn't worth bothering with so i'd go perrin

The Grimspeed one isn't recommended for tracking and repeated hard launches

i read the same. And that they are suitable for daily drivers that aren’t running high boost levels.

if a daily driver and not running high boost do you really need one?
I would be checking breather pipes for oil residue first off.

it’s more of a safety measure for me too be honest. I’ve always read good things about aos so I thought I’d take the plunge.

Grimspeed seems a lot easier to install than the perrin one

looks like a lot of work involved in installing the Perrin one.

the only thing I’m worried about with the grimmspeed is the possibility of condensation on the unit itself.

i run the S2 Industries one (Grimspeed copy) and have done on old hawk sti and now on forged hatch sti for guts of about 5yrs. does the job!

i run the AOS to intake pipe into an overflow bottle that covers any hard launches/track work that may cause a surge - though never a lot in bottle to be honest

I have the Grimmspeed fitted and it is great. No issues with foaming, etc.

For big power builds they say to go for catch can type due to surge or run the middle pipe off the Grimmspeed to a can.

Looks like a similar bit of kit to the grimmspeed one. Does look smart though I must say!

here is mine when it was fitted with TMIC still in place, and even less visible with FMIC installed - you can see the run off into overflow 'plastic' bottle

mine cost £80 delivered...from Australia

At what boost level is a aos not suitable on a daily driver

The Perrin one is the only "proper" one on the market, its a lot of wedge for an AOS though!

i wouldn’t say that! They’ve all got good and bad reviews with them when I was looking.

I’d you’re running 350bhp or less and don’t track the vehicle don’t see why you’d need one tbh. Had a 3 port catch can on my old widetrack that was my daily road car running 440bhp but never really needed to empty it...didn’t see the point in the end just more pipes and no obvious benefit.
Bought it for piece of mind but ultimately probably never needed it in the first place.

Edit - remembered a few mates had oil in their TMIC - for that might be a benefit as that can significantly impact performance
