Default How to work out if your car's been remapped.

Hello! I've just bought my first Impreza, an 04 2.0 WRX. It's got a couple of bits and bobs on it, an HKS turbo timer and an aftermarket exhaust, the previous owner also put in a nice clutch too.

What I'm trying to work out is if it's been remapped. There's nothing in the documents that I've found yet, but given how much it pops and bangs I'm fairly sure it has. At the moment if you're coasting and just gently touch the accelerator you can basically make it pop indefinitely.

Any thoughts? I'd like to find out what map it has, and what my options are really. I quite like the popping but I do pretty high mileage so if it's going to eat fuel because of it I might look at getting it undone. All advice welcome!

Thanks

book in with your nearest garage that offers remaps, they'll be able to plug the car in and tell you if the map is standard or if it's been tinkered with

i would suggest a cheap boost gauge would tell you all you need to know-if it heads round to omg 1.6 bar it will have to have been mapped for that -needs quite careful mapping to get pops and bangs though!
