Hey guys, new here and not sure how to post a question so I'm tagging on to this one. I'm in process of building a VW Thing and am going to SPICE things up with a Subaru Engine!! I acquired (FREE) an EJ20 engine, but dont know what year or anything else about it, it appears to be a single overhead cam?? Some stampings on engine are EJ20 on block also on rear where trans will mount there are two, first one is B324879, and then 500428501501, on one of the heads I can see an 307EK, and on the paper tag on front cover I see WAE-040 324878 VB10. The guy said it was a Turbo Engine, but no turbo there, but FREE right?? Just figured if Engine was worth rebuilding???

Post some pictures up of the engine - would be easier to narrow down what it is

Default Freebie EJ20

Okay, if I downloaded correctly there should be some pic's attached to this post. I removed the Intake and found another number on the Block Casting that Clearly has a 98 at part of the number sequence, So 98 I presume ? Any good? HP rating? Thanks for the Response it'd much appreciated.....

Looks like an '99 onwards engine to me, are the intake manifold bolts inline ( 1994 - 1998 ) or staggered ( 1999 onwards ).
Any white stickers on the back of the cylinder heads as front white sticker is partially obscured/torn.
The 98 on the block is just a match number to identify a matching pair of blocks - will have 98 on the other side too.
AA denotes the bore size for that half of the block.
33332 are the factory main bearing sizes.
I thought all US domestic market SOHC engines were either 2200cc or 2500cc so maybe an import engine ?

Cheers,
Mick

They appear to be staggered. The old guy said he thought it was a JDM, and all hoses wires etc are lopped off just like JDM. So is this worth building, or cheaper to get a JDM that's got everything with it ECU harness etc?

Thanks Mick
