Hi guys and girls,

getting my wrx mapped in 2 weeks. My question is, is it worth me upgrading the standard oem fuel pump ?. I was thinking one of scoobyworx colossus 325 pumps but don't wanna suffer the supposedly over fuelling issues as the map will only take me up to just shy of 290/300bhp.

At those power levels I'd say yes. I'm targeting a slightly lower figure and was recommended changing the pump. The 255lph Walbro one seems to be rated by many. ITP154 for newage and ITP160 for classics I believe. Don't make the mistake I did and buy the wrong one!

I was thinking walbro but I've heard the scoobyworx ones are good. My mapper reckons the oem one is good enough if it's good condition, but I don't really wanna take that risk.

Problem with fuel pumps is that they usually don't simply fail - stop working. Over time their efficiency drops and so their flow rate reduces. This might not be apparent until you go looking for more power and discover you don't have sufficient fuel pressure to maximize power potential. For the sake of £80 or so, I'd definitely replace an old OEM pump with an uprated one, especially if i was mapping for more power.

I've read on here that some people have had over fuelling issues by fitting a bigger fuel pump. I'm not going for a massive map, maybe 320 max. I've heard that an oem pump is ok on a standard map depending on what figures your chasing. Do you know anymore about this ? As I've tried googling information but nothing's come up.

Fitting a higher flow pump won't cause overfueling - you still have a fuel pressure regulator.

That's what I'm thinking. It's still the original stock pump on the car so I don't really want their to be any issues after my map. Would a 325lph scoobyworx be ok or would it cause problems because of the flow rate ?.

To replace an older pump for reassurance against failure is understandable but the biggest misunderstanding is that the OEM pump will not flow enough when going for a few more bhp. My OEM 03 pump on my wrx ran out of flow at around 430hp, why it was still in there is another story but these pumps have lots of over capacity.

My mapper said that the stock pump will be suitable if it's in a good condition, but wouldn't know until
hes had a look. But for leave of mind I'd rather replace it because I'll know then that I have a pump suitable for the added bhp. I even spoke to a Subaru technician and he even suggested i replace the stock pump for that reason.

and its a pain in the hole to replace a pump in a hatch fuel assembly. just before someone comes on here and says it takes 30mins max to replace....in a newage & classic yes.....in a hatch NO!!!

get a new fuel filter also when replacing the pump as its all part of the main fuel assembly

I've read that they are a bit tougher to change than the newage and classic's, which is why I'm giving someone £50 the privilege of doing it . I did think about that, might get onto icp and see what the price would be for 1.

Put a RCM 340 in my Wrx sti saloon in 45 mins.
That included cleaning

Think hatch is same as mine but if others say it's a pain it obviously isn't

Also For what it costs if the pumps old just replace. Safe than sorry. Fuelling is so important

I've just bought a scoobyworx 325lph and a genuine fuel filter off icp so I'm good to go on that front . Cheers boys

I agree. For the very minimal price of it I'd fit a new one before the car is mapped. Won't cause any over-fuelling issues so don't worry about that.


Either GENUINE Walbro pump from trusted seller of the SWRD pump. I've used both and both work great.

I have a 340lph pump in my 350bhp FSTI. Overkill, probably, but certainly won't hurt.

As said earlier and I'm sure you know, the pump doesn't effect the pressure in the rail that is the pressure regulator.

What the pump does is insure there is enough fuel there.

I was gonna get a walbro but they don't make them for a hatch. So I went with the colossus 325lph pump from scoobyworx mate. And I bought a genuine fuel filter from icp also, as suggested earlier, might aswell because it's part of the same housing.

Well done mate. Some people over look the most simple things then question why it ****s it self after. The 3 most important things
Fuel
Coolant
Oil.
All 3 systems need to be at their best and the engine should run like a dream

I always check my oil and coolant jampot. I get far too paranoid over things like that, especially when it comes to me car. Only the best oil aswell

I'm actually using the fuel filter that came with my SWRD 340LPH pump and so far so good. I did the same as you last time I fitted a Walbro pump and put a genuine Subaru filter on the end. This time I thought sod it and happy so far.


The SWRD pumps are a real quality bit of kit at a fantastic price IMO.

Argh nice! I didn't get that option when I ordered mine. Mind you I only paid £31.50 for a genuine one anyway
