Default 2 queries about Classic

Hello

I've got a 1999 classic with a few engine mods (bigger turbo, fmic, bigger fuel pump, ss exhaust etc.). It has a simtek remap which was done by andy forrest, running around 300bhp, so the previous owner told me.
My questions are:
1) I run normal octane fuel normally, but should I be running higher octane all the time? Or at least the odd time? I've tried phoning andy, but no answer.
2) The engine warning light flashes when going fast. This only happens when your foot is planted to the floor, so not a big problem... The clutch is slipping slightly, so this could be a factor.

Any answers are much appreciated.

Ali

I'd run on super.... Until you defo know what map has been done..
Even then I'd still run it on super... Just for piece of mind.. Never have or will run a turbo car on envy thing but v-power or equivient ..

As for engine light I'd have no idea.. Never heard of clutch slip bringing up cel light
As before don't floor it till you know or had it checked..

I doubt the clutch slipping and engine light coming on are linked. Definitely worth running on higher octane fuel. Fairly sure they are designed to run on this. Regular low octane unleaded can do harm to the engine apparently - something to do with det happening at high boost levels

I would get the the map checked first and go from there.

The cel is probably the knock threshold reaching its limit and bringing the light on to let you know its detting, probably down to the fact that it's been mapped for 99 and you're running it on 95.
Other option is if it comes on in the same rev range every time it could also be the shift light as this was an option on the simtek.

Cheers guys.

It has twin maps, so maybe the eco map is mapped for the 95 fuel. I'll switch over to 99 I think, i'll just pay a bit more!
I think you could be right about the knock sensor. The pressure gauge shows around 1.4-1.5 bar when at higher revs too, which is high I think. Maybe this could be an issue.

I'll keep trying to get a hold of Andy Forrest.

Easier to send Andy an Email, inlcude the registration of the car and the name of the person you bought it off as I think Andy keeps records of the cars that he's mapped.

Always run it on the best fuel you can get, if you can only get 95, then keep your foot off the loud pedal.
