I wondered whether this would be any good for keeping away the killer of no. 3 cylinder, I suppose it would quieten the engine aswell, but i havent dared use it yet.

Exclamation

"Ick."
"No touchy-touchy."
- results from various tests that labs have done. It just adds sludge (after not doing what it says on the tin) & upsets the people that put years of work into coming up with an excellent oil, only to have someone sprinkle salt & pepper on it without thought.
If search was working, there's loads of old discussions on the stuff!

I've used it on all my previous cars until someone pointed out that by coating the oil pathways it is reducing the oils ability to remove heat

So with Scooby I'm just sticking to using a good fully synth oil to prevent any more wear.

Oh and if you're worried about cylinder no.3 then I believe it is down to heat build up, so try some water wetter (about £15) goes in the coolant system and reduces temps, also speeds up the time it takes the engine to warm up. I use it and it seems to help the engine temps, although it could just be me....

I use Water Wetter as well (have done for nearly 2 years now in the Scoob).

Dropped the angle of the temperature gauge by about 10 degrees - what that works out to be is anyones guess....

Thanks

Gavin

I wouldn't put any type of oil additive in my car...

True enough Subarus can sound tappy but it also depends on the oil your using ie. too thin more tap thicker less tap.

I have found this to be true with my car...
I'm running with castrol RS 10W-60 now and the engine sounds lovely!
Before the garage put 0W-30 in the car was so tappy it sounded awful!!!!

0W oils are way too thin for our cars!!!!

I also heard a rumor that tapping can also come from too lower octane petrol I only use 98 octane, always have and always will!
