Classic: do I HAVE to go 6 speed?
If I want to increase my classic to 400bhp with my engine rebuild, do I NEED to go 6 speed? Everyone seems to say so, but surely there were powerful classics out there BEFORE Subaru came up with the 6 speed box?
For the techies out there, I think mine has the TY752VN6AA box, which is pretty weak, OK, but are there stronger ones without going the £2000+VAT 6-speed route?
Thanks.

It is believed that the new-age WRX box was up-rated to take more torque, better bearings in particular, if you stick to a 2 litre STI motor the torque will only just kill it....
A 2.5 will eat it ! 400 bhp is a lot in a classic.... IMHO
