Iv got a Hawkeye Spec C & will probably need a clutch soon. Car has only done 15k miles but recent power upgrades & since then the odd fluffed take off has'nt helped its life!

Car is running 345bhp but with 400ft/lb torque (6 speed JDM box)
Need an uprated clutch that can handle the torque but not be very hard to depress & difficult to get bitting point easily. As I have heard some uprated clutches can be quite on or off & hard to work in traffic. Bearing in mind I drive this car every day to work as well as the odd trackday.

Iv heard of Exeedy & Helix Organic & AP etc but dont know which is more suitable. Also dont want to spend a shed load on one either.

Has it started slipping yet, as I would find it hard to imagine that the OE clutch is duff after only 15k miles tbh.

I did 26k on my original clutch and I mashed it to death on the drag strip.... when it came out for the new engine, it still had loads of life left in it.

Not slipping yet but biting point has gone quite high up, almost to top of pedal.

Do you reckon its still got life in it?

Ive only just got my engine/car on the road and im looking to upgrade the power soon as its run in, but my clutch is also high up which is an Exedy Paddle (installed by previous owner), I thought the clutch was a pain when i first drove it in traffic, but after time you dont notice the difference. However i havent launched the car properly yet so can not comment on the strength on the plate.

Can't remember if you can alter an adjuster for that..... I think mine was quite high.

I use ap AP group A clutch. Although it is on/off, you actually get used to it. I drive mine to work and back and it's fine. You wouldn't want to try and go up a hill in a traffic jam though.

Thanks for everyones input so far as it helps me get first hand experiences of each brand/model of clutch.

I think for my purposes the Exedy Hyper & the AP grp A may be too hardcore, I need something that would be easier to live with but can take the torque & so not wear out too quick.

Speak to BOB'5 about the ACT clutches he does, i recently changed mine aswell as like you the clutch biting point went very high and was smelling when reversing and after a bit of a hard run.

The ACT clutches (theres so more info here ACT Product Search | Products ~ Advanced Clutch Technology - Performance Clutches) are still orgainc so not on-off like a paddle and although the pedal is a bit harder then standard the clutch is rated upto 515lb/ft. so more than enough for what i need it for.
I also bought and fitted a ACT lightened flywheel at the time which has made abit more difficult to pull off at low revs but i've got used to it now.

Pity i didnt see you lot were at Aces Cafe last night otherwise you could have taken it for a drive to see if you like it.

I don't think you can as its hydraulic.
The adjuster is only for taking up the slack as far as I understand

What you need is the APi uprated Exedy organic for that car. Safe at 420/ 420 and very light to use. I use one in my own 400 /400 car and demonstrate launch control, never slips, never judders and we've never replaced one under guarantee ever.

Cost is £395.00 + VAT and a skimmed ready to use flywheel for that is £100.00 + VAT exchange. The 6 speed flywheel is a strange shape and takes rather more time to skim than a regular flat one.

I have stock and can mail out quickly, or fit while u wait if you wish.

David is yours different to the standard Exedy clutch I have the FD08H with 6 springs on a lightened flywheel and it judders like hell. Any ideas?

Yes, ours is sourced in Japan by Mr Okamoto of APi Japan. We bring them in and then have a stronger friction material fitted here in the UK. That is why we call it th APi Exedy. We have never bought a single clutch from Exedy in the UK and as far as l know APi are unknown to them.

Nothing on the Exedy website is the same as ours and despite claims from other sellers that they sell the same one as APi, it is not true. We don't wholesale. It is exclusive to APi.

As for your judder, it is almost certainly caused by blister marks and hot spots on the flywheel or pressure plate friction face. It can only be cured by starting again. [ with an APi clutch? ]

To make clear THIS IS NOT AN API CLUTCH!!!!!!

Ebay Clutch - definately a genuine exedy (checked with exedy uk) 6 spring type fitted by local garage along with bearing, pressure plate cover plate.

Fine when engaged and fine when pushing it awful judder in stop start traffic and gentle down shifts.

I've been 1/4 miling with my car launching at 5K+ and my clutch is as strong as the day I picked the car up. My brother had 15+ similar launches in one day in his Spec C and his didn't bat an eye either. Are you sure this is necessary?

Well if it lasts Il be happy as I hate to spend dosh unless I have to!! Il wait till it starts slipping first before I buy one. At the moment Im thinking uprated Exedy & skim my existing flywheel when the time comes.
