How easy is it to fit a dccd diff onto a classic that doesnt already have it? What parts would i need?

Gearbox, Diff, rear diff controler, wiring and clocks (if you want the OE dash display, you could use LED's I believe)

As for fitting, depends how good you are with the spanners. cant see a problem doing it in under a day if you know what you are doing

DCCD is the way forward (or should that be sideways )

I have actually done it to my Sti V3 which i use on the road and racing (hillclimbs).

For the road I doubt the dccd gains much at all imho.
On the race track it gains you control in some circumstances.

Unless you get ALL the parts then splicing all the wiring together will take ages. Actually fitting the dccd gearbox box is just a transmission change-over

In the For Sale section is someone selling the total kit, £1250. A very very rare colloction of parts as most dccd looms are integrated into the Sti RA/R looms but not the lesser Imprezas.

Some R/Sti RA's have the dccd loom separate so can be removed from the car.

In my experience a pain of a job to do with questionable benefits.

 

firstly what classic do you have?

If you have an import with 1:1 drop gears then you can swap over your centre diff and transfer case with a DCCD one.

Then its a case of controlling it, either with OE parts or an aftermarket type, like neetronics (sp?)

Or of course you could run it without it wired up, which would result in it being open and the car running 35:65 rear bias (which to be honest is where the controller is at 99% of the time on my car)

It just so happens I have a DCCD diff for sale

 

Its a wrx type Ra my94! I only want it for the extra fun to be had

Jay is right about the split.
I never drive my dccd on the road in anything but open (setting without the dccd controller in place.
Drives great on the road.

On track I use to wind mine forward a couple of clicks... lovely handeling then!

What sort of power/torque are they good for... I might be buying my RA back!!??

 

Mine stays all the way back, unless the roads are open, which i then wind it forward a couple of notches.
And for launching, i wind it all the way forward, thn once off the line, i wind it all the way back.

 

I have done a DCCD Swap on my 1995 WRX. I used a Neetronics DCCD controller to control the DCCD. Works pretty well.

Know much about 2.5ltr engines 911?

 

I am the most well read 'expert' on the bloody 2.5 engine! I've asked so many people about them and have now concluded they are great and can be engineered to very set levels of torque/revs with simple specifications and associated costs.

The best deals are from Crawford and Axis in the USA due to the great exchange rate of $2 to the £.

To me they are a 'real world' option for us all. Remember the gearbox and cluch to cope with a strong 2.5 will cost about £4K, or a nice 6 speeder @ £2K.

The very best info on the 2.5 is over on 22B.com where you will find all the options available and the truth and all my questions too...

Has anyone ever seen/tried this solution:

Its designed for the 6 speeder so I'm not sure if it will fit a 5 speed (but the neetronics fits both so I dont see why this should not also). Made by a chap on nasioc who has sold a fair few of them to people ding 6 speed conversions.

One thing about it is that it does not appear to have as many wires to connect as the neetronics. Can anyone with knowledge of fitting a dccd controller to a 5 speed comment on what they think of this device?
I've managed to pick up a sti ra box/diff with a long 5th for good money, may even be able to put it all together for under £750 if I can get away with this controller instead of the neetronics.
Any advice appreciated,

5 speed, i already confimed with the guy who makes and it will be fine, good chap to deal with very friendly and helpfull

ie £200 cheaper than neetronics. ok you dont get the LED's. I think I'll make do with keeping tabs on how far round the dial is. Its not as if your going to be adjusting the damned thing as you drive along.

 

I have everything you will need to do conversion. just taken out of my 97 type-r box,diff,ect only removed today if interested email scottsden1@aol.com

 

When I installed the Subaru ECU in my conversion 75% of the wires were for the dash indicator, so dropped that and I literally count the ribs on the knurled control wheel from fully open. It works great every time I hillclimb the car.
Keep it simple.

 

dont think you need the leds to be honest, i went for the auto controller which monitors stuff like g sensors and tps so it kinda adjusts fthe diff for you on the fly, the wheel just changes the aggresiveness of the 'map' so once its setup i suspect you will probably never change it.

The manual version is only £100 delivered! Unfortunately the auto version does not have a manual overide, but I suspect that if you wired a switch in you could install both manual and auto controllers and have the bst of both worlds. Would be v.interested to see how the auto version works on a 5 speed.

 

I've found i need 2 settings only.
1
To drive on the road with little hassle/creeks/bangs and judders = Open position. You need this to reverse without embarrasment anyway. (I have a tight plated rear diff)

9 'clicks' on the wheel from Open (each click is one rib on the wheel using my method above) is used for full-on hillclimb starts and competative runs.

Don't need anything else.

 

does any one know if its possible to fit type r box and diff(rear) to ver3 sti ,do i need to make any changes and are there any differences in gearing.i know i would have to fit dccd controler if i wanted to have that option,but were can i find a aftermarket one like said mentioned above in this section
