Hi folks,
The dash lights on my MY95 type RA are dead. The only thing that lights up is the top one - Lock IIRC - when I start. Any help would be mucho appreciated.

On start up the diff "lock" light is lit for 2 seconds then lights up the light assciated with the diffs current position. Sounds like it is locked! Or the ECU for the DCCD is FUBAR!

What does that mean?
If it is FUBAR how do I fix it?
Thanks

Have you tried moving the adjuster wheel to see if any other lights illuminate?
If they don't, it might need a new DCCD ECU or a wiring check
Usualyy if the ECU or DCCD is FUBAR then the Light will permanently flash.
Do a search on Scoobynet on "DCCD" and look for John Felsteads posr on the full technicla manual, etc on DCCD.
Hope this helps!

Where/how would I check the DCCD ECU?
I've got the JF info but it's more based on using DCCD rather than fixing it.
Thanks again for the help.

Did you have a look at the wiring? (as I suggested earlier in the thread)
The only problems I've seen spoken of with the dccd (when flashing light is indicating a fault) are wiring probs.
Check the wiring and connectors to the gearbox, does sound like you may have disturbed something further whilst 'playing'

This seems to have "awoken" the DCCD which now flashes the fault light.
However, in the dark when I switch on the ignition I get the lock light for a second followed by a quick flash of the DCCD position before the fault light flashes - ie: orange to the front, green to the back - which would indicate the diff position at the time, as well as a click in the dash (above the CD).
Any more ideas?
Thanks
there is something in the manual that says the lights may occassionally go out at night briefly. Never seen it myself though.
Is it functioning i'd imagine is the first thing to check?
Firstly ensure the handbrake warning light isn't illuminated, then roll the dial all the way forwards and drive in a circle at full lock on tarmac. you should feel it winding up - i.e. resisting the drive and making peculiar noises. Rolling the dial back should stop this.

Its sounding more and more liked its buggered, sorry matey, but it may not be to serious.
The majority of DCCD flashy light probs arise during clutch changes; someone who isn't 'in the know' dropping the gearbox without realising there's an electrical connection to the centre diff.
Either the cable will have pulled out of the loom (rare, but simply plug back in), pulled the wires from the diff (need to take the top cover off, solder and insulate) or, and I have seen this happen a couple of times, the cables that run through the diff break down.
If you can get it on ramps then you can feel around the top of the rear of the box to see if there is a cable there and if its floating or fixed. if it isn't obvious then you're getting to the point of needing the box out to investigate further, which isn't a massive job for someone who knows their way around an Impreza.
I really would take this to a subaru specialist though, they need to know what they're looking for if it isn't an immediately apparent electrical prob.

Thanks for that matey

We had it on the ramp yesterday & the connector is in place OK but there is an oil leak near the top where the wires go into the diff which may be something. All the connections seem OK but ther is a good deal of oil on them. Looks like it's back in next week to drop the box, fix the leak & sort out the DCCD too!!
Thanks again for the advice
