Default MY97 engine change

I'm looking to replace the engine in my UK 97 turbo as I simply can't afford to rebuild it. Do I need a 97/98 engine or will any EJ20 fit with modifications (was hoping to drop in a JDM WRX lump).

you would be best off with an engine of similar age i would say.things to look out for are different bolt positions on the bellhousing, and on the inlet manifold which are all in line on some and staggered on others. the rest of it shouldnt be a problem as long as you keep your old engine for other parts.

If you use your heads you can fit most blocks.
If you want a whole engine then it would be best to get a MY97/8 engine to save any hassle

Any engine up to 1997 will work if you use your manifold/loom.
