It's usually down to dirty (or dead) wheel speed sensors. I diagnosed and repaired my ABS system last month.

Mine's a MY96 so I can only extract "flash codes" from the ABS light to tell me the problem. You have to connect one pin of the ABS check wire under the dash to ground to enable this. Not sure where the wire is and which pin it is for a MY00, so you're probably best off going for the select monitor type diagnostic.

There's a couple of workshop manuals on the web. These contain most of what you need to know.

My ABS light has just started coming on and staying on every now and then. Would like to check the sensors to see if they are dirty. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking and what I am looking for..

Thanks

Hi guys,

[New member]
My ABS light came on today!!

It only switches on when I select 2nd, 4th or Reverse gears.
Really odd. This happens when stationary not just when moving.

I drove away in 1st and 3rd and the warning stayed off but when
selected 4th, ping, warning light.

Any ideas ? Why would the ABS know which gear I am in ?

I think I have found the cause (fingers crossed).

I have some extra wiring on the loom to the cigar lighter and I
moved it yesterday trying to find a squeeking sound. I think it
may have earthed or shorted something when the gearlever was
moved into 2nd, 4th or reverse and caused the ABS warning.
