hi all

Just thought id take the scoob out for the day after being sat in driveway for a month and bang halfway down the road.
its a 93 import wrx, td05 turbo, z4 ecu runing fine in driveway and around the block.

Let her warm up, all is ok so went for a drive and on acceleration as the turbo spooled up it went bang.
Now the car struggles to idle, sucking air in like no tomorrow and black smoke out the back

please help anyone asap as im worried sick with whats wrong

oh and there is no turbo power (boost) whatsoever

Have you checked your turbo pipe under the I/C. Mine blew off once and the car went all to ****.

Hope it's something simple.

As red rocket says, check the pipe under the intercooler, sounds like the most likely cause I took my intercooler off a while ago to fit the de cat pipe and have to move the car, ran like a sack of the foul smelling stuff and would barely idle too

 

yeh pipe that went from under i/c to the turbo had come off, run a little better but looks like turbo gone any other ideas people?

it still has no pressure and black smoke out the back

Have you checked the pipe, it may be split ? When i put mine back on i had a bit of smoke and then everything was fine. ( No pressure ) not sure.

Check it has not come off again .

checked again, no split that i can find or see mate, but there still smoke out the back, rough idle (not as bad but still rough) and no boost pressure.
looks like the turbo doesnt it guy's?!?
can they seize up? or would the actuator have caused the prob. the bang or loud pop must have been the pipe coming off from pressure built up so i guessing the turbo stopped working.? this sound about right?!?!?

im gutted, grade a subaru said turbo be 300 quid.

 

Dont give up till you check all the pipes it khappened to my leggy i know it sounds bad but people always think the worst

oh my word, what a day.

its all sorted, thanks for all the help and advice.
turned out to be a nackerd coil pack and mega soiled plugs. just hapend to have a spare c/pack, put that on and cleaned up the plugs, car has run great all afternoon on its little run to north wales!!!

Mine made a hug BANG when mine went. First thing i thought was F**k the turbo's gone. They guy who recovered the car for me said that he has picked up loads of Scoobs with this prob.

Well done mate.

I replaced mine with a Samco kit. If it happens again my be worth looking at.
