Question

OK, have been thinking about a downpipe for a while, and hae been offered an HKS one, which is nice.

just wondering what differences it will actually make?

more power?

more noise? (bear in mind that I have an Apexi N1 backbox so is a tad noisy anyway)

If I still have a cat in center section (which I'm unure about) will that cancel out any advantages that the DP would give. (if no cat in center then full system will be catless, which would be nice!)

so, should I do it?

A downpipe will give more power, more torque, and more noise, even with the standard centre-section. The standard downpipe contains a cat, so a cat-less one will be less restrictive. The cat in the middle section should be enough to control emissions and pass the MOT.

YES, do it !!!!!

Definitely buy one, but if you are going to take the plunge, then dont buy an HKS, it blocks off the wastegate compleetly, so will not allow you the same gains as the others do.

I think the standard downpipe also blocks off the wastegate. What does this actually mean in practice? It obviously doesn't actually seal off the wastegate, as the wastegate would then be ineffective. Why is the standard exhaust designed like this?

Well it certainly spools up a LOT quicker with a downpipe....
