Sorry if this is in the wrong section but i need to find some solutions to the problem i have asap as its xmas eve tomorrow and need the car over the xmas break.

Went for a spin tonight and as i was pulling on the drive, steam started comign from under the bonnet, loads of steam.

Smells like coolant, at the drivers side, rear of the engine there is coolant/coloured water sprayedall over the fire wall.

The coolant resvoir is empty of water.
The engine temp is normal but as soon as i start the car it steams liek mad.

ANY IDEAS guys?

Cheers In Advance

Thumbs up

would'nt it be better if you fill her up, with a hose or somat, and while it's still filling look see where the water/coolant is coming from first.
but first make sure it's already cooled down

had exactly the same thing last week but strangely enough it was the result of going through a puddle and it took ages to evaporate off the rad, loads of steam etc, not saying this is your problem but if it clears after say 10 mins then maybe its not a leak??

Cashy, what MY do you have?

I think I know what's up mate. If you have a pre-facelift scoob then you'll have a plastic/resin header tank. The pipe on the top right that feeds the turbo has a tendancy to corrode and in effect turn to pulp inside the rubber feed hose. Check this hasn't corroded and snapped off, did on mine on a bank holiday weekend!!

Alternatively, allow the car to completely cool-off, totally fill reservoir and leave the car to idle until the see the leak, I think you may have a radiator problem, I had this too, steam all over the place from a pinhole leak, had to replace the rad but not with a Subaru one ( how much???????).

Hope this helps mate and that you get your car done for xmas.

Skoosh.

Might be a long shot, but see if a garage can do a quick pressure check on it. You'll be luck on xmas eve though.

Cashy,

If i understand this correctly & the leak seems around the Intercooler .. there is a hose which goes into the throttle body just under the Inlet manifold, This split on mine. It was hard to identfy because it is quite hidden, Also requires Intercooler off & small nimble hands to replace if that is it

If you are a member of the AA or RAC or similar they should be able to do a pressure check on your driveway.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have had to leave the car alone and going to have a look after xmas.

Spoke to a few people and they say either:

Heater hose
Coolant Pipe or like you mentioned the small pipe that sits under the inlet manifold, there is a small pool of green coolant there so perhaps this could be it.

Will know more when i start the car up again full of coolant....

Cheers
