Just wanted some advice ! I need a new clutch for my ( Impreza turbo 2000 98 S ) the question is what to buy?

I want to spend as little as possible - Do you know anybody that sells and fits clutches cheap in or near Bedfordshire? I live in Dunstable

I don’t want something that’s going to brake in 5 mins! I drive the car fairly hard so I was thinking of upgrading to a racing clutch. I know nothing about different makes of clutches so if there are any experts out there that can give good advice I am all ears!
Which are the best makes?

How much should I be spending?

What are the drawbacks of a racing clutch?

Thanks in advance

Mark

I fitted an £85 borg and beck from http://www.autospares-group.com/ and I am running more than standard power with no problems the last 13,000miles and 6months or so.

Rally Colin that posts on here is the cheapest place to have a clutch fitted that I know of.. he is in Reading.

His email is colin_minton@hotmail.com

Question

Cheers for the tips so far, but is that it !! - I was expecting more advice than that!!

After doing some digging around myself I have had advice that putting a racing clutch on maybe a mistake!
Somebody told me they only last on average about 5ooo miles, is this true??

I have been offered an (Alcon 4or6 paddle - if that‘s how u spell it???)£200 which sounds like a dam good price, however for the miles I’ll get out of it , not sure it will be worth it!!

I am presently only running standard BHP and am not looking to push the boundaries as I want reliability.

Do You know anybody that will put an Impreza clutch on a little closer to home (BEDS)??( somebody that dont take the pi$$)

Cheers
Scotty

911..

Id be tempted to go with a std / cheapy one.. I have a strange feeling if you uprate it the box may take the brunt of it..

Rubbish.. only reason I could see people thinking that is due to them running very high power and going for a racing clutch, but one that is not up to the abuse or people buying inferior ones.

My car was standard nearly when I changed my clutch and I am kicking myself now I am modifying it that I stuck with the standard one as I am going to have to revisit fairly soon I suspect. At which point I will be going for a Lateral Performance one, as they come highly recommended by a number of people.
