Is there any kind soul our there in Central or South London who would be prepared to let me hear exactly how loud/quiet a SS back box and down-pipe is, please?

I have a MY97, 5dr. Thinking about having the system in early October.

Also, does anyone know of a decent service and suspension set-up garage in the area? A company called MSP who advertised in Autosport a while ago, are fairly near... has anyone any experience of them?

Ta very much...

Hi,

I have a SS back box only, and live in Earlsfield. You're welcome to come and have a listen, and see if you could cope when the volume is turned up a few notches higher...

Andy Tang has both fitted on his MY97, but it didn't help him produce much more power than my MY98 at one of the PE dyno days(sorry Andy!). I had a ride in his car then - I can't say that it sounded that much noisier than my car, but maybe a bit 'gruffer'.

Email me off-line if interested.

BTW, I have been in a friend's 5dr with SS, and it is a bit louder than in my 4Dr. I suppose the open load deck of the 5Dr mutes the exhaust note less.

Cheers Alex!

Although my excuse is that it was running a standard filter and not the ITG I have now! Also it was running on normal unleaded then!

Anyway, I think the biggest difference was noticed when I drove away from ScoobySport after having it fitted. Took the turn at the end of the road fast(ish) as I would normally drive. The rev's went up higher and quicker than normal, and the back end stepped out. I think the difference was very noticable, but like with all modifications, I'm use to it!

Take the car on a motorway run, and the drone from the exhaust is very annoying! I think it is louder, and noises I didn't hear before, were now there in your face. Like the sound of the turbo spinning up and the pops & bangs of unburnt fuel! Lovely stuff

Getting out of my friends V-reg and into my car, it feels like stepping from a libary to a race track! Although there are louder systems out there!

Looks like I have to get down to Power Engineering again and set the record straight! I'm sure it would be closer to 255bhp in better conditions! (I can hope!)

Regards
Andy

There is a meet arranged in Epsom Downs on the 26th September. I'll be there if you want to hear a 'gruffer' exhaust system. I'll take anyone for a quick spin if they don't believe that it is nosier!

Regards
Andy
