Question

I had my service done the other day at a subaru dealer, when i checked the oil the next day (engine cold) it was only in between min/max on the dipstick, this isn't right i thought. I phoned the dealer who said pop in and they will top it up, now bearing in mind this is a 140 mile round trip i said afraid not, what about if i get some oil and send you the bill (i know it wouldn't cost a lot for a litre of oil, but that ain't the point when a sevice cost £175) they said they couldn't do that, but if i got the oil Shell helix plus they will knock it off my next service, fair enough i said.

Anyway the reason for my question is when i went to my local shell garage they only had shell helix ultra, which is a better oil and dearer, but not helix plus. Will it be alright for me to mix a 10/40 synthetic oil with a 5/40 synthetic oil, i need to know as i want to top it up A.S.A.P

Thanks for any help.

James.

No don't mix..

It was between min and max?? so what is the problem..

Leave it as is and check regular and don;t let go below min..

Too much oil is as bad as too little.. between min and max is fine..

Hi JGM,

i know it will be fine for now, but there is a little principle involved, but what about before my next service is due and it has gone lower as all cars use some oil i will have to put some in then.
