How different are Chips...
Oven bake or Fried ????
No seriously i have a ABC Superchip that i bought for an Impreza and i am not oing to use it on the scooby....question is would it fit a Volvo 850 T5-R ?? are they very similar in what they do or are they manufacturer specific??
Thanks.

Depends what sort of chip you're talking about. Genuine replacement ECU PROMs/EPROMs like the ScoobyECU will only work with the specific ECU (or range of ECU's) for which they were designed. In this case then you couldn't take a Subaru chip out and put it in a Jaguar.
However, I believe that most Superchips for turbocharged cars aren't really "chips" in the proper sense, and don't contain any mapping data at all. Most of them are crude clamps that alter the boost level signal fed into the standard ECU, making the ECU think the boost is lower than it really is, and thus compensating by running higher than normal boost.
If this is the case, it probably is theoretically possible to make a Superchip designed for one car run on another. However, this would not be recommended as the results would be totally unpredictable, and could be dangerous for the engine concerned. In sweepingly general terms, boost clamps are best avoided, especially when the facility exists to perform a proper remap.

Thanks a lot Greasemonkey.
Just wondered because i have a redundant Superchip that i bought (£130) for my scooby and was then advised otherwise by scoobynet, so it's gathering dust
