Red face

Ok, since the remap etc. I am experiencing severe fuel cut in 2nd gear around 5k rpm, but ONLY when I'm 1/3 tank or less, so I am presuming that because I'm running uprated pump and 3.5bar fuel pressure that when I boot it, all the fuel is going to the back of the tank and I'm getting fuel starvation.

There must be a way to prevent this?

Nothing to do with the fuel pressure, pure "g". I have seen a car with over half a tank do the same thing.

cheers

Did the problem occur directly after replacing the pump? If yes; When you fitted it, did you use the original sack or a new one? Some of them come with an inappropriate sack design shorter than original...increases the likelyhood of starvation.

If the above is true - refit stock sack to new pump

Thumbs up

Thanks guys.

Richard - fitted the one that came with the pump. Didn't check the length. Seems like its a common problem due to the tank design.

Will give powerstation a call later.

I used the stock pre pump filter on mine, and in 25000 miles i have had one case of fuel starvation. Indicator was below the E, and i booted it off a roundabout

Many times i have had the red light on, and nailed the throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and had no hint of starvation.

Steven - does seem to be sporadic, and it also does seem to affect newer models more, although my mate with a 330bhp sti7 has never had probs either.

I also fitted the sock that came with my first uprated pump, and suffered worse starvation than before. Refitting stock one fixed the problem....well, back to where it was before anyhow

Ed

I had the same problem with my STi7 on right handers or full throttle in 2nd gear. It started after I took it to Power Engineering to have their sports cat exhaust system and fuel pump fitted and an Ecutek remap (just like your mate). PE were not interested in looking into it.

In the end I got Powerstation in Cheltenham to investigate it whilst they were upgrading the suspension. It turns out that PE had fitted an Evo8 fuel filter to the fuel pump which is about a third of the length of the Sti7 one. The correct fuel filter was fitted and since then I have not had a problem even when running with the fuel warning light on.

Hope this helps.

Another short sock sufferer. 1/3 tank and I had it in a straight line.
