My 2300 mile sti8 type uk has a problem...

Had vibes at 72-73mph, and pulled to the left really badly.... tracking was sorted...didnt pull to the left anymore.

Wheels re-balanace twice (at different garages)... vibrations are still there, and now it pulls to the left really badly again.

Different set of wheels and tyres have been fitted (from the dealers demo sti8), and the same problems exists.

So I expect that the guys at Subaru will be getting involved next week to try and track down what is going on.

Anyone had similar, or have any ideas what might be happening? BTW, doesnt seem like the brakes are binding - no excessive brake dust - and wheels dont seem to be getting hot.

I want my car back

Richie.

Similar speeds Sammy? Both your STi7 and now your STi8 does it? Man, things are going from bad to worse

Well they have just removed the turbo in an attempt to get a bolt out of the manifold on mine. All this for PPP, and now they say i will not have it for the weekend unless i am very lucky. And i gave them the car on Monday morning. So it seems the robots in Japan have been going off balance a bit recently

Is it happening whilst braking? If so it could be the hubs misaligned and causing slight run out on the discs.... I had this on my STI7, which took 10K miles to find and sort out.... !

Best of luck,

Richard

Richard, no, happens all the time, but only at 72-73 (road angel speed) - any road surface. The tracking - or something - has gone out of align again, as it is now pulling to the left.

Could it be a binding handbrake I wonder.

Richie.

Wasnt the handbrake... 4 corners are being swapped from another Impreza III STi Type UK (just for you Mr Wood ) ... until it stops vibrating - at that point it'll be a warenty claim, new parts yada yada.

Sammy.. have you had anything done to resolve it?

Mods, can you move this into drivetrain

Cheers,

Richie.

i would look at the driveshafts personally did a few on the classic shape that made the wheel shimmy just like unbalanced tyres.

richard it has cured the brake problems then?

Hmm balance on the car eh? didnt know that could be done.

However they think something else is up... due to the fact that the tracking is all over the shop again - pulls to the left like a ****, yet a couple of days ago it wasnt after the geometry set up (and nothing has been hit).

Next stage is to swap corners from their demo MY03STiUK () one at a time, until the problem vanishes. Then when/if it does, get all new bits under warranty.

Fingers crossed.

Richie.
