Induction Kits...?
Hi guys...
I've got an induction kit waiting to land on my doorstep but wanted to find out some answers to questions in my head about them.
I've heard they can cause MAF failures... - what are the signs of a MAF failure, and how can i detect it?
If it knackers my MAF, can it cause a situation such as, I don't realise the MAF is knackered and boot it, the engine blows up ...?
my car currently is:
MY99 UK, Tek 2.5, Forge DV, ITG Panel Filter, Dawes AFR, Boost Gauge.
Do i "need" more monitoring equipment?
as i don't really care about replacing a MAF, im more worried about the harm it might do to my engine if it buggers up..
cheers,
Simon.

Hello
A spot of after-sales, then...
Your Dawes AFR should let you know what's going on. See/make a note of what the AFR meter registers now, and then check again after fitting that it hasn't gone lean - at least not more than a little, especially on boost (although never having had any MAF troubles bar on the APS which wouldn't even register
I wouldn't be too sure if there's any specific point to watch for). It should be noticeable everywhere if there's a problem - just know what to compare it to!
And the car can start stalling - a sure sign of problems.
I don't think anyone has ever had a problem with a K&N though!
Edited to add - you could go nuts & get a knocklink as well. Very useful bit of kit. Effectively, if the AFR gets too weak, the knocklink wil blink! Well, it'll blink with other problems too.
Natty bit of kit.

When I bought my car a year ago, in Belgium, it was equipped with an HKS induction kit, I blew up 2 AFR meters and almost my engine because when you drive in water, the filter will suck up water.
Also is the airflow different then with an original air box, wich is still the best as it will hold up the water and is specially designed for your car, I think an induction kit is more for the show and the looks than for performance... let me know what you thnk about it but at 290 Euros for an AFR I know what to do

dawes afr is a bit cheaper than that
cheers nom...
kewl, as long as the effect of a dodgy MAF is noticable (what i was hoping - rather than, "your engine is blown sir as your MAF hasn't worked for the last 2 months..." - then i should be ok
i was just wondering if i should get some more gauges...
