Loud ticking noise from gearstick
Hi I need help i have a 2011 WRX sti sallon, noticed a few weeks back that when coming off throttle third gear at the time, but now mainly all gears but not so much in second gear 4th but does in 6th as well it ticks load but when i hold gear lever to the left no noise at all,if it rests in it's natural position it ticks and if moved right whilst in gear, on over run whilst cruising, when on gas no noise,
noise changes with rpm or speed of car still there when clutch in,not there in neutral.
I have fitted a short shifter but that was 6 months ago and there was no issues,I'm hoping it's not the centre diff, goes in gear fine, etc
Not had a chance to look ro see if anything rubbing springs ,heat shields etc any one had this, its a 6 speed manual...

You fitted a short shifter - just the lever or complete assembly?? Maybe worth lifting the centre console and making sure all link nuts/ bolts are tight and no slack in the bushes.
Have been running a Kartboy short shifter for 50K miles with no problems/ noises.

Hi don thanks for replying, shifter only I've checked 5he Bush under console 3 times and tightened and checked ok. Been out on a run tonight don't think its gear box more the ball on bottom of shifter or the support Bush as if I try to lift up gear lever and hold up when driving there is no play ro speak of, there is no noise at all..
