Default Cusco rear diff - rare or standard?

Hi All

My 1997 impresa sti version 3 has a cusco rear diff which was factory fitted. I am just wondering if this diff was fitted to all version 3 sti's or if it was an option (and rare?).
Any ideas what benefits the cusco diff gives over the standard GC8 diffs of that time?

Thank you!!!

Curious to know how you think/know this came from the factory with a cusco diff??

OEM viscous LSD rear diff for a rev D (04/96-07/97) Wrx Sti is p/n 27020AA040 which was also used in other impreza versions, legacys and the the SF5 foresters.

Cusco GC8 diff info

Confirmation of what was used for your cars build would require the VIN

I was told it was a factory option at that time and the car was a small cusco badge on rear.
I phoned the owner who imported the car and he was explaining this information to me.
It could of course be rubbish but I just got the impression and was true.
Jot sure if anything can confirm if there were factory options for changing your diff at that time ?

As mentioned above pm your VIN and we'll see what it left the factory with.

Thanks so much Don for checking my car details. Brilliant !!!! So it turns out my car left the factory with standard components, so not sure if the Cusco diff was added retrospective if at all!

Os there the possibility of the gearbox/diff at front could he Cusco?

Any tell tale signs of a Cusco diff on a car?

Thbks you Don!!
