Default 1994 wrx wagon auto box problems

Hi guys
I have a 1994 wrx wagon import the auto box works all fine till it gets hot then it will just not select any gear at all however once you turn it off and leave for a couple min it's fine till it gets warm again my question is that would this be a gearbox out job or is there any where I can check before I commit to taking it out?
thank you in advance

Do you know when the auto transmisson fluid & filter was last changed ?.
How are the levels both oil/fluid?.
Is the box changing as it should?.

Yes it was done by someone else about two weeks ago
when you first start it from cold it's fine once it starts to get hot it gets sluggish changing then finally it just stops, once you switch off and wait couple min to cool down it will go again till its hot then repeats, I was thinking torque converter but seems bizarre it's only when hot,
thank you for replying

Id be temped to do another gearbox oil change, using what you know is the correct oil, and go from there.

Just a little update on closer inspection when draining the auto box it appears to have a dent in the sump pan and it is also leaking which is not helpful so it needs to come off, is there anything particular I should look for while it's off? Also I wondered if the diagnostics would maybe show a gearbox fault if it's electrical?
sorry for all the questions and thank you :-)
