Hi,
Choice of oil will not stop ringland failure, not sure where you heard that but it's not true. I run mine on whatever Subaru put in it when they service it for me every year. Presumably fully synthetic 10-40 grade (same as I use on my 2 weekly check & top ups).
My car is running a VF48 from a 2010 STI and is set to 1.35bar boost max. Would recommend limiting boost to this level at very most as above this can cause premature failure on a standard 2.5 engine.
Don't forget, if you are thinking of upgrading the turbo or going above 300bhp there are many more things you will need to upgrade such as: fuel pump, intercooler, intercooler under tray, 3 port boost solenoid (not essential), downpipe & possibly exhaust, air filter, remap, brakes as std WRX brakes are dangerous with increased power, possibly clutch & flywheel, etc etc.

Ref your 300+bhp Hawkeye on standard internals. I have a WRX that I'm thinking of puting a sports cat on (Prodive) and mapping up to 280-290bhp. If you don't mind me asking: what turbo are you running and what oil do you recommend, as I've heard the right choice of oil and fuel prvents the dredded ringland failure?
Thanks, Gio
