I can't fault them - we use them for one of our lines and its worked flawlessly, although I ditched the router they sent in favour of a Draytek modem which is rock solid.

Is that the £24 connection fee? I'm seriously thinking of moving to Be. Currently with BT and my bandwidth has dropped from 4 meg to 2.7 in the last year.

If you've still got any free installs I'd be very grateful.

Aside from being tiscali. . .

Bethere is a better internet connection - but without the free landline calls.

The unlimited package being £18 per month with no traffic shaping or limits.

Tiscali impose shaping & fair usage policy.

Bethere supply the router, well they did for me. Have a look on www.bethere.co.uk to ensure she is covered first, then go ahead and place your order if needed, simple as that.

As Andy said - they don't cover all the UK - mainly the highly populated areas where the exchange has been unbundled.

RE a cheap desktop:

For your mum in law's needs anything will do. Second hand or new will be fine - I'd suggest :

1gb RAM
CoreDuo or Athlon X2 (cheaper) processor
Onboard VGA will be OK
Network port / wireless would be needed to talk to the router.
17" Flat screen (or 19+ if the money stretches)
40gb + Hard Drive will be fine - get a new one if your PC is second hand & fit it your self.

Thanks for that

By network port do you mean the yellow (ethernet I think) port that my PC is attached to the Netgear router ?

Cheers

Aargh my mrs gets it cheap (works for 02) but we arent in a Be/02 area. Will probably still swap to standard 02 offering just to get away from Pipex (or should I say Tiscali).

I was with Pipex, they were fine until Piscali took over.........then they couldn't get anything right. Tried changing my tarriff without my permission from unlimited to limited download and then kept charging me for going over the non existant limit, double charging. Just avoid at all costs.

Midlife - yes that'll do.

just nip over to computer hardware, components, systems and peripherals at the lowest prices from IT supplier Aria Technology for a cheap monitor.

Anyone on BE you can now change your speed profile on your member page. I changed mine to 'optimise for speed' but my line became very unstable. It might work for others though.

Your netgear will have to support ADSL 2+ to get the most out of it.

At work we use a Vigor 2820 router - worked out of the box.

I use the BEBox @ home. Does the job well.

Other Router Chat - The ADSL2+ User Forum

is useful

I use my own router, it is however the same as the bethere one
You would need to re configure your existing router to work with be anyway so just put your security settings on the be box
