It seems from some of the online racing we have been doing there are some pretty good pedallers on here

However, it's sometimes difficult to really judge outright speed in online racing due to 'racing incidents'

I thought it might be good to have a weekly specific challenge!

Rules are as follows:

The winner of the previous challenge picks the track and the vehicle for the next challenge.

Absolutely no upgrades are allowed, cars must be completely stock, HOWEVER any amount of tuning within the limits of the stock parts is allowed.

Any combination of driver aids is allowed, although be prepared for heckling if you top the table with all aids on and everyone else is off

Anyone posting incorrect or inaccurate times (they will be cross-referenced to the Forza tables) will be immediately disqualified, and publicly humiliated.

Challenges will be held in a one-week window, minus time for the winner to announce the next challenge. End times will be 9pm on a Sunday evening, start times will be defined by the winner creating and posting the next challenge on the Monday.

NO ENTRIES will be accepted past 9pm on the sunday, even if there is a valid time registered on Forza to back it up. It must have been posted in a new post on this thread and NOT edited subsequently, so the time can be validated.

If the winner does not start the next challenge by 9pm on the Monday the duty will pass to the no.2 placed racer, who will have til 9pm on the Tuesday, and so on.

As it's my idea () I'll kick off with a little mini challenge myself and Messiah have going:

Track: Mugello short
Car: Red Bull GT3 Cup

When you post a 'better' time that any on the list, please post your Scoobynet name, your xbox live name, your time and then W if you used the wheel or P for the pad in a new post, and THEN if you have the time and ability, create another new post, copy and paste the score table from Forza Motorsport 2 - Forza 2 Scoreboard sorted by friends (obviously it helps if you add everyone who posts a time in this thread as a friend.

Any of your friends in the table that are not posted up here with their scores as above will naturally not count.

Not sure if this works but the Forzamotorsport.net scoreboards have been updated, the times are now in order and you can link directly, although you have to click on 'friends'.

hehe - just noticed I set that time with TCS off, I think I've gotten a lot quicker since switching it on!

1 car + 1 track is all it needs isnt it?

If we're going to limit it to make it even then we'll have to limit it to controller only also to make it fair for those who dant have a wheel - cant see that making everyone happy.

Surely, AT/MT or TCS on or off is all part of the tuning?

I reckon we should allow one aid, you get to pick which one you use (someone might be great with throttle control but needs ABS to help stop etc).
That way I get to use AT, Ed gets to use ABS and Messiah can use TCS

 

That is of course assuming the wheel ends up being faster!

I don't know, I'm 50/50. Braking into and accelerating out of the bend's is where most of the skill and judgement exists, is it really a reflective test of skill with driving aids on?

 

You should allow any aid the person wants to use. why limit this? should be about encouraging people to play and have fun.

Again if people have the wheel let them use it. If people state they used the pad or wheel what's the issue? it's a bit of fun not F1 guys

Haha, I dont't think we're going to get a unanimous on this one

 

I'm sure people would love to drive with no aids but skill levels take time to improve. with all off you'll have 3 or 4 guys **** kissing each other while the others get bored and quit. If you state what was used then people can subjectively see who is the 'better drivers'. The aim over time would to be all racing all aids off I would imagine.

 

I'm a sad Barsteward and been through all those scoreboards, I'm only top on 7 in total between my friends. Thats' 7 in total across each class (6 classes - didn't look at the R classes, 17 tracks). So 7 out of a possible 102!

 

Most of those I play online with say they do quicker laps in Time Trials using a wheel, most think the difference over a 1 min lap is about a 2 sec advantage. Of course it depends on the track, esp something like the oval where using a controller you cant help but take the long bends is a bit of a choppy fashion which scrubs 1 or 2 mph off.

I could probably get away with knocking TCS off but I'd really struggle without ABS and the automatic box - as I'm already doing the hot lap leaderboard thing, I'm trying to be as fast as possible on every track, and this little competition can only help me with that, however, its unlikely I'll be able to beat my fastest time on some tracks with certain restrictions in place so I'm likely to get disqualified...

If someone sees that having a certain aid switched on seems th way to go, there's nothing to stop them switching it on is there?

 

Okay, lets go with any choice of aid for now so we get maximum participation!

As Sti says, it will encourage banter if the 'winner' has all aids on and 2nd has them all off etc.

Maybe for this first week we should just say that any aids can be used. As STI says, its better to generate a lot of competition rather than a few people that can race with no aids**
