Best Compact Camera
Hi folk
The Mrs wants a new camera for her birthday, got a budget of around £200, can anyone recommend me something good? My favourite is currently this one

The Panasonic Lumix get good reviews - we have 2 (as then the controls stay similar on both). Wife has a DMC-TZ20 and I have a DMC-FZ200 bridge camera - both take fantastic pictures.

Have to agree on the Panasonic TZs. The TZ25 was rated amongst the best compact cameras in Germany easily competing with 400€ cameras at less than half the price. In the end I got one, too, so I don't have to carry my DSLR with me all the time. And I have to say, I'm very impressed with what you can get away with this small camera. Even lowlight works quite well. And using the camera is so easy. Everything is explained on the display, but most of the time you don't even have to worry. The iAuto works so well, it's just point&shoot. I am missing some features of my DSLR but that are mainly advanced features. So if your Mrs is not that much into photography, she probably won't notice it.
By the way, the image quality of the successor of the TZ25 - the TZ36 - is a bit worse due to the smaller pixels on it's sensor. So if you don't really need to play the "Megapixel"-Game, you probably want to stick with the TZ25.
Here you can find some measurements and test images for the TZ25 and the TZ36 in comparison (sorry that it's a german page). I could also upload some pictures/videos from the TZ25 if you need them.
Sadly you can't get the TZ25 anymore in Germany but in the UK they are still around for £140 on Amazon.

Panasonic TZ series without a doubt, I have the TZ7 (which if I remember correctly is better than the newer TZ8 so bear in mind higher number does not = better on Panasonic) I purchased about 3 years ago after lots of research, no need to spend anymore than what ever the current equivalent TZ7 is the one to get, dont get lured in to spending more and more and more and then worrying about losing it or getting it stolen.
Amazing pics and if you do go on holiday and look at other people from all different countries taking pics loads of them (in my case the majority) had Panasonic TZ's
