Default VLC for iOS.

Does that mean ipads/ipods will play more than just wmv/mp4 files?

They always have pretty much. But VLC is free and good, a nice combo.

Does it support hardware acceleration. The only player I will use on the iPad is Xbmc

Plays everything

Same here, i have it on a Mac Mini as a home cinema, and its faultless

I'm using it now on my ipad. Thing is some movies have no sound, but they worked fine on VLC on my MacBook. I don't have my MacBook ATM so can't check which sound formats aren't workings the iOS version.

That's not great. I've only tried movies I've made myself and they all worked fine.

It's down to codec licensing issues. Most media player apps suffer with I think ac3 (someone might correct me)

That might be it. Ripping my home move collection has been a learning experience and I have used several codecs a long the way. I'm using AAC now I think and that works ok.
