Default IOS 6.1 issues

Morning all.

Well I updated my phone earlier this week and I have noticed quite a few issues.

1/ slow internet, both wifi and 3G.
2/ shortcuts have stopped working.
3/ seems slower to process, especially on this forum.

Anyone else having issues?

Going by apples forum there are many stating that their phones are discharging rapid and that the phone is getting quite warm!

Anyway you anti apple guys, keep your suggestions off this thread!

Is jailbreak worth it Wiley? What about all the data, emails, photos, settings etc, do they still remain the same? I assume the being it is unlimited free apps?

I've always been sceptical about fudging software.

I'm on 6.1 and I notice a dramatic difference.

Not happy with it.

Currently using iPhone 4, no intention of going to 5 just yet, but it is inevitable

You don't lose anything when you jailbreak
It just makes the phone much better with more features. The free apps is a bonus

Ipad4 and browsing is now super slow. Safari crashes a lot now too. Anyone know if you can roll back?

Surely testing the software isn't difficult, not like there is a lot of different hardware to test t on.

I hadn't upgraded my iPhone or iPad yet lol

But funnily enough my service provider text me and basically said dont bother downloading it as its crap and has lots of bugs ,just to wait as they are working on a new update as the old one was poo hahahahah

Think apple are challenging windows myself for pointless updates that are actually a step backwards hahahahah

Jack will tell you that it runs perfect on his phone and that Apple dont do crap software (but since pretty much every major upgrade they have done has been crap, worse than android and thats saying something ) you should usually wait (like windows) until the patch for the first patch and then the patch for the patch on the first patch have been done

Apple has probably closed the signing window for 6.0.x so unless you had saved your shsh blobs before then you won't be able to roll back from 6.1. It's one of the gripes I have as a developer, sometimes it would be nice to be able to roll back to whatever iOS version a device supports. Devices lent to others do accidentally get updated, despite warnings not to do it, and then you're stuck.

When it comes to betas Apple states you're basically sacrificing a device to run the beta, which as a dev, you'd want to do to ensure your app runs ok. This means you need to ensure you have enough devices to run the iOS versions your app supports, plus a spare to sacrifice to the beta.

throw in more devices and you end up with quite a few devices for different iOS versions.

As for it not being difficult to test the software, I have to disagree there. When we release an app update it goes through a regression phase, this, depending on what has changed, can take between 3 and 5 days per device type (we test on different iOS versions and Device types, retina and non-retina), typically it's six devices making up that mix. This is a lot of QA effort for the team, but it ensures a quality product.

As stated, this is just for one single app, focused on very specific things. The OS is going to be far more complex than a single app, and I would assume that Apple performs somewhat more in-depth testing before releasing an OS update (yeah, ok, joking aside about various bugs and suchlike). 6.1 was in beta for quite some time, and I'd presume that QA is ongoing for that period, as it tends to be for apps too, you target feature test, then once it's pretty much locked down, you regress, fix any bugs found, verify and then release.

iPhone and iPad running perfectly. With so many users there's always the very vocal few who feel they have s problem. Fandroids like Mr Burns love to amplify minor issues.

lol what a surprise, as Tony called it, you just can't help yourself Clark.

Have you ever had an issue Jack with any of your Apple devices? be honest. Actually I don't know why I'm even asking as I know what the answer will be.

For the record I love the apple products and yes they have some negative values as do almost all hardware/softwares.

As per post 1, this is not about scoring points apple or android fans, I'm simply asking if anyone else is suffering similar issues.

Ive reported mine to apple. Internet being intermittent doesn't bother me too much as I live in a rural place anyway, so I've learnt to be patient with 3G and the best reception so far for me is three by far.

Re the shortcut issue, that's frustrating as I now have to type out all my data or copy and paste ;(

Cockforger, my iPhone stopped working fully with my Alpine stereo a few years ago, documented on here. Works great now, in fact 6.1 made it work better.

Mr Burns, if someone asks if anyone else is having a problem and I'm not, what am I supposed to say?

Currently using mobile data, admittedly in Sweden not the UK and its working perfectly.

Do I have to prove it? Do a search, from 6.1 I no longer get an accessory connected message and have full control of my music from the phone or the stereo, previously it was Stereo only. Happy?

Vodaphone are warning users of the Iphone 4S not to upgrade to IOS6.1 due to 3G reception issues:

http://ananyah.com/2013/02/08/vodafo...alling-ios6-1/

Apple have already sent out a Alpha test release to testers for version 6.1.1 to fix this.

My cousin's 4s is suffering this...

Sucking the battery down within a day and getting very hot during use....like alot hotter than my 4S has ever been. Also freezing in teh camera, then storing a picture of the screen backgrond in the photo album upon reboot .

Mine's still on iOS 5.xx Seriously...I got it more or less stable and how I want it, and I want to keep it like that so turned off the updates. Glad I did

A massive majority of people have no issues, I'm not the only one trouble free on this thread.

I've been out all day since Thursday on the same charge using 3G. 55% right now at 17:52, left at 7:00 this morning.

Would this be why SN is now painfully slow on my IPad?

I updated the software just over a week ago and SN is stupidly slow to load the pages up now, I sometimes have to stop it loading then refresh as it gets stuck on a blank screen?

Regards

Best blame it even if it's not. Scoobynet is often slow for me on my desktop machine, but don't let that stop you.

Hmm ok I will then....

I have no idea if a software update on a phone or iPad could affect how fast a website loads hence asking the question

I haven't noticed any difference when using my iPhone 4

How can a massive majority not have issues and it seems also a massive majority do have issues when the hardware is basically the same? The only difference is the carrier and the RAM on board, depending on which 4S the user bought.

So the only logical conclusion is that the software is poorly coded.

Maybe the update method? I did mine via iTunes? And possibly a problem with OTA?

Wouldn't most users update via itunes? If there is a problem there, then the software would tell you if it had succeeded or not, so It's not that. Again if the update was incomplete with OTA it wouldn't, well shouldn't even try to install it.
