Sorry to those that have read this on my gfx card thread, but I wanted maximum exposure/advice before laying out the wedge

I've decided, in the end, rather than try and breathe new life into this aged dog of a PC I would invest in a new one.
I'm quite into my gaming so it's got to be capable of BF3.
However, I work from home, using AutoCAD, photoshop, illustrator so I don't want a PC that sounds like a jet about to take off either.
Budget is ~£750-£1k for the base unit alone.
I quite like the sound of the Chillblast Fusion Whisper, the only thing I'd add to that spec is a 120Gb SSD as the primary drive.
However, looking at Scan (their Scan G30 system seems good value @ £908 with a SSD?), Ebuyer etc it seems everyone has similar priced PC's, I just want to be sure whatever I buy will be reliable, fast and not noisy.

Ideally I would want a pre-built system rather than have to build it myself, but I have looked at Scan's 'today only' and they've got a barebones i5 based system for £456, that if I put a 560Ti into would get me almost to the same spec as the Chillblast but for a lot less (but have to build it myself etc).

Can anyone recommend a PC supplier that I've not thought of? I don't want to use Overclockers.

Hi there

Have look at Novatech Barebone bundles

These barebone bundles are with OE CPU cooler,which is not the quietest and not the best for overclocking job,due this i would have look for Noctua CPU cooler or Arctic Cooling Freezer which are great,i was used this on mine i7-920 clocked to 4.4ghz..

For GPU i would go with nVidia if you are want mostly in Photoshop/Adobe programs due nVidia chips are supported via CUDA at Adobe programs and in AutoCAD should be OK,i was used HD5870 before in AutoCAD and other programs without the problems.

Like i said before GPU only for AutoCAD and other graphic programs you will need invest to GPU £1k-£2k alone

Thanks for your reply. I'd forgotten about Novatech, will have a look later and price things up
My work in autocad etc doesn't really tax the gfx card as its mainly 2D stuff I do.

I'd say build it yourself though, as it's only plug and play. Be careful of HDD prices as they have soared recently.

Ended up ordering the bits from Scan. Gonna build it myself. Last time I built a base unit the cases had screws and chassis so sharp I would slice my hands up.

Spent more than I'd planned but it'll last me a good few years.
Ordered a 3XS i5 overclocked bundle
8Gb Corsair memory
2Gb Nvidia 560ti
120Gb Corsair Force 3 SSD
1Tb Seagate HD
600watt PSU
Fractal Design Define R3 Case
oh and Windows 7
Bits should be here Saturday. Much better than having to wait 12 days for the system to come and pay another £100-150 for the privilege (I say that now before I attempt to build it).
