PCI Graphics card - anyone got one that I can have/borrow, please?
As per the title - I am attempting to diagnose a fault on a Thecus NAS and need a PCI graphics card to see what (if any) POST messages are displayed.
I used to have a drawer full of the things, but gave them all away last year. Does anyone have an old one knocking about that I can beg/steal or borrow, please?
Cheers in advance.

I can't telnet as the unit won't boot, therefore the network doesn't kick-in.
It's a multimedia station / NAS hybrid - I want to stick in a PCI graphics card to watch what the POST is doing. I've been (reliably) informed that it may be the only way to diagnose this particular fault.

Hi Burr, i had a nas with similar symptoms...
lights on but no one home so to speak.
If i recall, i used a Jtag cable to link to the pc, and opened a putty window / SSH, and then went in via the config 192.168.1.1 and turned the unit on, you saw straight away that it was failing its boot sequence due to the boot loader having been wiped.
The fun part was Jtagging in
what model thecus nas is it?

Thanks for that info.... my info was received from Thecus support (NL) .... "If you got some old computer hardware, ( pci videocard) you could also see what the system actually does while booting."
I purchased a new DOM, which was meant to fix the issue, but it's not changed a thing. They're sending me another DOM to make sure the first replacement wasn't a dud.... we'll have to see.
Interesting to hear about your JTAG cable; did you make it yourself or did you buy it?
The box is a M3800.... it's pretty basic, but a basic NAS is better than no NAS, right?

Mines a thecus N299 & and i have an older pre gigabit type which was bricked, hence the Jtag
http://mrt.nas-central.org/wiki/The_...bricking_guide
gives you the info with telnet & jtag
Jtag cables are about £15-£20, but if your handy with a soldering iron or connectors, you can use a phone usb cable to turn into a jtag cable
mine was dodo, but i used putty to get to the unit to see the booter was failing..
once i reflashed a new bootloader via jtag, it was fine
