After 25+ years of PC usage I finally got an Apple Mac earlier in the week - a nice little 13" MacBook Air (new model) and what a nice piece of kit it is too

Didn't find the swap of UI an issue - after 24 hours I felt fully at home and it even felt a bit strange using my Win 7 laptop without the trackpad gestures! Guess all those years playing around with Windows replacement shells helped with the transition.

Lovely having a machine that wakes up instantly, long battery life and looking nice isn't a bad thing either.

Grabbed Fantastical plus TotalFinder which really add to the productivity side of things. Finder in general doesn't seem as useful as the file manager I used for Windows (Altap Salamander) but I'm sure it will be once I get used to it.

Looking forward to the update to MS Office in a new months when it bring in Lion features (full screen, autosave, etc).

Got VM Fusion running with a Win 7 image to cope with Sage and MindManager as don't fancy buying new licenses. All very seemless and slick.

Nice! I'm a bit gutted as those new airs are about as powerful as my 6 month old top of the line pro.

Just curious but not concerned,as i think i was one of the first to get the new macbook air soft ware as i have the mostrecent generation.

as a non macbook savvey person i just wondered what the version to have was.

The Airbook I bought is running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Spec wise it's the 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB standard (on the 13").

Ok thanks, mine has osx 10.6 i life 11, in the software department and not sure what core/ GB or how to find out.
its around six months old so obviously yours must be some new generation.

Like you say though, what a cracking piece of kit, i'm over the moon with mine.

Thanks, that was painless, the more i use this mac the more i like it

I remember doing something similar on a pc a few years ago and there were alot of different folders i had to go into to find the simplest of information.

I'm even doing software updates as i type this, which is somthing i would never have done on a pc or laptop for fear of it going **** up, which is what usually happened whenever i tried to do something.

Oh no, i'm turning into a mac fanboy..

From the same Apple menu try the App store, you'll find Lion in there, it's £21 but very much worth it. Lots of other software in there, tons of it free and of course very easy to install and keep up to date.

Hi, why would i change from leopard to lion, i know it's a bit of a stupid question as obviously it's the latest software version, but wondered what the benefits were.

Your Air has an incredible touchpad, it's good with Leopard, fantastic with Lion. You'll benefit from full screen apps, which may seem minor but will change the way you work for the better. There's a thread on here extolling Lions benefits.

And it's the latest and it's only £21.

Just got an new i7 Air as the other aging Macbook had a second disk failure, indeed it is so old it doesn't run Lion.

Anyway - two excuses were enough. It is faster than my i7 Pro, with a longer battery life and a lot less weight.

Brilliant. Lion is also brilliant (except it hides the library - grrrrrr).

Best new feature is Air Drop - makes exchanging files and stuff SO easy!

Fire up terminal and enter the following (pressing return at the end)
sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library/

When asked for a password, enter the password of a local admin account (probably the password for the user you are logged in as)

Job done.

Thanks Markus - I did that - but only after about ten minutes of looking at my HD with some confusion!

Google ended up being my friend.

It was a bit more tricky finding a hidden file to delete to unlock my Thunderbird mail file!

I've just got a 27" imac with 2tb+SSD - boots from frist press to on and using it in less than 20 seconds. Awesome.

Liking Lion a lot although not tried out all features yet. I went for the magic touchpad option - haven't looked to use the mouse at all yet - love the touchpad
