From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
Does he want ?
1. Blu-ray playback
2. Freesat
3. Freeview
4. Multi-channel sound
5. HDMI
Just buy a pretty box and build one, I use CCL as they are quite close to where I live.
Mine is :-
Thermaltake Bach Series Media Lab VB8000BNS case
Asus P5K-E with Q6600 plus 4 GB of memory
Cinergy 2400 DVB-T twin tuner card
WD caviar black 1 TB hard drive
Intel 80GB SSD to speed up booting
Pallit 460 1GB graphics card, cool and very quiet
Use a HDMI lead to the Panasonic TV and coaxial digital feed into the Cyrus processor. Finally ending in a 5.2 speaker set-up.
Windows 7 with media player is O.K.
I also like the remote my case came with
Any specific questions, just ask
Regards,
dunx
P.S. Easily holds all my DVD's and CD's, but I'm not a hoarder...

This is what he said when I asked him:
It is called a media centre PC. Dell do one called the Inspiron Zino PC. Direct HDMI connection to a HD TV. Up to 8Gb ram and 1Tb hard drive. Needed to store avchd movies from my camera and play them back, as well as to operate as a PC. If connected to my router (via LAN), will it be able to communicate with my present PC as well as to the internet??

Well then it's purely a matter of aesthetics...
Big cheap ugly box, or a svelte slinky number...
If he's not bothered with Free, sat,TV,FM radio, it's just a PC with HDMI and maybe firewire or USB to transfer files from the camera onto the harddrive.

A trawl around the CCL Computers site will show you how cheap a std. PC shaped box can be.

So around £340 plus windows 7 home edition. For a properly quick machine. Blu-ray writer would be a good option too !
