My Steam installation buggered up

My Steam installation buggered up
Strange!
It would not start up, giving me an error, so i figured i would download the installer again and try some kind of "repair"
That kept giving me a different error telling me that some help file was not in the .cab file
Bugger it, i will uninstall the client then reinstall it from scratch, it seamed to be taking a rather long time to finish its uninstall, BECAUSE IT WAS DELETING ALL MY FACKING GAMES
Ohh dear, i now have to download about another 50-80 gig
here is hoping all my save game files have not went **** up

Lesson kinda learned, might make a backup of the game files before reinstalling steam

I know there is the option to right click and backup game files, did you do this if not it may have deleted the game saves not sure though

Had the same thing happen to me & it sucks. Backup your games to an external drive, doesn't take too long and will save a world of hurt in the future. I suspect you may have lost your save games though, hope not.

Just checked Batman and my save game is still intact 
64% completion and nearly at the end of the game (poison ivy fight) all the challenges are still unlocked and it logged me into LIVE once i had reactivated my serial number.
Dawn of War 2 and Mass Effect, i will be gutted if i have lost them ones
Left 4 Dead has no real need for saves anyway as i only play it in co-op campaign
The rest i would not be so gutted, maybe HL2 although IIRC i was stuck anyway, and have been since the last time i played it about 6 months back
Grid = completed this on the 360 ages ago and since traded it in, only bought the PC version as it was to cheap in the sale, not fussed if this one is buggered up at all.
Will be backing up the games now to a second hard drive, fingers crossed for DOW2 and Mass Effect
