Default Registry Cleaners - any good?

Doing a spring clean and wondered if Registry Cleaners actually do what they say on the tin?

Any good (meaning free!) ones I should look out for? And what are the pros & cons?

You can trial this for free

Registry Cleaner - Registry Mechanic

It compacts the registry aswell, altho that may only be in the purchased version.

Just beware with Ccleaner...its good, but....

The later vesion now comes bundled with yahoo toolbar which will auto-install if you don't pay attention to the install options...make sure the box is unchecked.

Adding a pointless tool bar (aka "spy/ad bar" ) to an already cluttered system defeats the whole point of tidying the registry

You can get the "slim" version instead: CCleaner - Builds

Also uncheck the boxes that put links in the "recycle bin context menu", and uncheck the "check for updates".
