Question Parallels question - Mac

Looking at a new MBP seeing as my G5 is now a paperweight.

There are two versions of parallels, normal and premium. One is £50 and the other £60, what is the difference?
I can get the academic version for £40, is this the same as the normal and will I be able to run both Vista and XP in a window at the same time?

Rich,
Have at look at this comparison matrix. From the look of things you're basically getting three additional windows apps with the premium edition.

I would have thought the academic version is the standard version.

As for running XP and Vista at the same time, it all depends on speed of the machine and available RAM. You'd need to have each VM configured to use a specific amount of RAM, plus leave some for OS X, and of course you'd need to have the processing power to essentially be running three OS versions at the same time. I've certainly run XP and 2000 Server in Parallels at the same time on my Early 2006 iMac (1.5GB RAM), it wasn't overly quick, but it did work.

I would also strongly suggest you download not only a trial of Parallels but also VMWare Fusion. I've had Parallels since the first beta and it is good, but I find myself using Fusion more these days when I need to run a VM.

Im looking at a 2.4MBP with 4gb.
In truth I'd only run one or the other but having both available would be handy.

Thanks for the info Marcus.
