Sorry I know this is pretty basic but it's bloody irritating.......
I am trying to prepare a longish document using Word. When I want to type in some sub-paragraphs like
1) blah blah
2) more blah blah etc
Word then defaults to using a tab and I end up with.
(tab) 1) blah blah
(tab) 2) more blah blah
How do I override this default please? david

Are you using numbered bullets?
If so, you need to change the settings:-
Format / Bullets and Numbering / Numbered Tab / select the style of numbering / Customise....
You can then change the indents which are automatically applied..........

Thanks Mr Biker
Not sure what numbered bullets are but basically I hit ENTER and type a) on the next line (as the start of a sub-para) and the bloody a) moves forward as if I had put a tab in when I haven't
So I type in
a) blah blah
and end up with
TAB a)
which I don't want. d

When it does that it should show up a small icon at the start of the line (lightening bolt called auto correct options), click the small arrow and tell it to stop changing what you're bloody typing, this should stop it happening next time.

Many thanks to the SN Friday typing pool. Now sorted. That's my Word Lesson for the day!!
It may also help with a problem I have been having with typing repeat labels which I didn't mention 'cos it would make me look even more stupid

Thanks. d

It's great to be able to draw on the huge pool of experience that exists in Scoobynet.
