friend bought a new computer from retail outlet now needs to be reinstalled due to their stupidity but she has no recovery disc/xp disc has licence label etc
should she have a copy of the software i recon yes but shop is saying no

Depends - you often have to pay extra to get the disks. Most PCs don't actually have a physcial copy of XP included when you buy it.

Surely if she has bought the software she should be allowed a recovery disk?
What shop is it?

Couldn't they argue that the PC is not fit for purpose without the disks?

Either way, surely when she bought the computer she must have got an XP license for it? Can she not use this again to install XP?
It should be on the computer case.

you can't put the licence in the cd rom though

The computer came with xp pre installed ready to go but was new i bought mine from the same shop and mine came with a recovery disc although mine is from a different manufacturer

i have a packard bell (dont laugh) with XP home installed when i 1st got it. There was a thing on teh desktop to produce your own restore disks.

But when i came to have to restore it i couldnt find the disks i had made. So i phoned dixons where i baught the comp and they sent me a new set through the post.

Dont thing they charged me but im not 100% if they did was only a couple fo quid.
