Transferring everything from one mac to another
Hi
Looking to buy a new macbook air to replace my aging macbook pro. I see there are a number of ways to get everything across to a new machine.
When you do this does everything go into the right place? for example will my downloads be under downloads, photos be under photos? Or will I just get all the files put together somewhere?
Probably a stupid question but have never done this before.
Thanks very much

Easiest thing to do is get an external hard drive and backup to it using Time Machine. Then plug the drive into the new machine and restore it using the Time Machine backup. Everything should be exactly as you had it when you created the backup.

Any time I do a massive upgrade of PC hard drives I use that as an opportunity of deleting all the accumulated crap. So I spend the hours needed to trawl through phot albums/documents and only move whats needed.
