Remote Fangdooley
I have a wireless network supplying internet to me (remote location). It arrives at my router and provides a fixed IP. The previous owners had a second wireless connection to another building as they had obviously never heard of mains lan extenders.
The ISP has seen fit not to disconnect this other connection, nor charge me and it has a separate fixed IP in the same range.
For some stupid reason I've yet to discover, my router froze last night and I was unable to remotely access my network. Obviously that is a pita.
How would I go about configuring my network so that if one router was not available (the primary), it would route via the secondary?
I am guessing I would have to get an intelligent switch, configured as the gateway and have it route traffic to primary then secondary if not available?
It won't stop the router borking but it means that I should retain connectivity to the house, although via a different IP.
What other strategies can I use to ensure that I have a maximum chance of internet access at a remote location?

Those switches can be a pain in the ****, we have one at our local paragliding club to keep the web cam up, shockingly unreliable, will try to find the brand.

In fact

Just got one of them off eBay for not a lot 2nd hand - much less than the stuff above. Bit of overkill maybe but I can then manage a few other things as well - like the wireless receiver, the router, a switch, NVR etc.

It arrived and I had a bit of a play with it and other than the badly translated instructions, it works well, even if it is a bit fiddly to set up. SMTP settings for emails out are restricted to a certain amount of characters per field and a password max of 8 characters etc are some odd limitations. But hey, as I said, its overkill. Going to have a fun time attaching everything to it, just so I can reboot whether or not it needs it
