Think why didn't you sell when it touched $20k?

Same reason I didn’t sell before the previous crash. I did buy my trezor when it was 19k, happy with that.

With the doubt over more regulation of bitcoin and crypto currencies i'm not so sure it's going to get back to $20k again, certainly not any time soon. With every tom dick and harry who owns a 1080 mining at home it's pointless to get into it now so i've not bothered.

I'm cool with that, I wish it would stabilise so I can go back to spending it. Fee's are super low now, which was great timing for my move to Trezor.

It's rising faster than it went down right now so I doubt I'll get my wish.

So all this number crunching would appear to benefit the slight of hand , at the expense of exploring distance / not so distant galaxies

The program was OK. Nothing groundbreaking.

Think Duncan’s back on the booze.

Has anyone done mining with a 1060GTX or know anyone who has and found it's worth while/profitable? It's a low power consumption gpu but still powerful although from initial googling it has large overclocking potential useful for mining but with the increase in power usage.

You won't mine Bitcoin with a graphics card but should be OK for Etherium

I read it can get a hash rate of around 20'ish so using this calculator it looks promising http://www.mycryptobuddy.com/EthereumMiningCalculator

Thanks.

I've got a new Dell XPS sat here and debating whether to keep or send back. It's an i7 8700 and 1060 gtx 6gb so decent spec and debating if I keep it will it earn anything if I set it mining.

It's to replace a perfectly working older Dell XPS which really doesn't need replacing but bought the new one on impulse as usual If it's worth mining (at the moment I don't even know where to start other than reading/research) i'll keep it and sell the older one on.

Looks like on average you can make about a pound a day, so might take a few years to pay for itself.

To be honest not bothered about it paying for itself as it's for my main machine and home lab anyway (plus I have an xps 9550 laptop) and the 1060 was for improved gaming really and see what Forza is like on the PC with half decent graphocs plus Elite Dangerous. Anything made from mining would just be for pleasure and knowing it's not lost me money doing mining. It's more for being inquisitive as to how it works and what you have to do and get it working rather than to make money, just as long as I don't lose money doing it basically.

Someone needs to remind Mr Gates that people use Windows to do all sorts of nasty stuff. I like him but that statement helps nobody.

" think the speculative wave around ICOs [initial coin offerings] and crypto-currencies is super risky for those who go long" that bit is spot on though.

Lots and lots of ways to spend very little sending money now and more so in the future through competition without having resort to this

I haven't sold, have been spending/gifting the proceeds I made at the split with Bitcoin cash. Some of the coin I gave away early is now worth $5,000, that friend lost his keys, only one friend I know of kept his keys and is now sitting on $800'ish
