Default White spirit to remove tar spots?

As per the title, can I use it , or is there a good reason why I shouldn't? And if not, any recommendations as to the best stuff to use instead please?

The whole car is going to be clayed, polished and waxed afterwards.

Thanks folks.

That's what I've always done. Just make sure the area is well ventilated and you may choose to wear gloves to prevent ingestion.

Thank you, but is it better than white spirit (or preferable for safety, or some other reason) as I've already got some of that?

nothing wrong with white spirits for the job, 86% of tardis is WS anyway, as long as your not just using is and leaving the paintwork it`s fine which you wouldnt do with any tar remover, WD40 works fine also if your stuck
