Russell Bulgin - RIP
Moderators, feel free to move if you wish, but thought most people would like to know....
Sad news reported by Autocar. Russell Bulgin lost his battle with cancer last week.
<shocked> As long as I can remember reading CAR, I can remember reading his work.

Regular contributor to *a lot* of magazines that I have read through the years, but most recently EVO, yes.
IIRC then it was in one of his reviews he termed the phrase "EVOness" and what it was about - and where the title of the mag came from.

OMG!
I didn't even know he was ill!
I've been reading his articles and columns since I was a sprog.
A sad loss to the world of automotive journalism - can't remember any other journo in any of the serious titles who's views I identified with more. A big GT3 fan as well...

This is indeed a great shame. In addition to his writings in EVO, he was also a regular contributor to AutoWeek on this side of the pond. I always enjoyed his insights, and I feel that the automotive community has lost a wonderful voice...
Very Sad

The guy had me hooked on car magazines from the age of 8

Great writing from the 80's to date, I certainly remember his work in, CCC, Car, Evo, Autocar and a couple of C4 motoring programmes - including a documentary on the Mini.

Agreed - I was once lucky enough to meet Russell at a motor show - charming bloke, and a fantastic writer to boot. One of my journalistic heroes. A real sad loss - I've dropped a line to Steve Fowler the editor at Autocar to express my sympathies.
A very sad day. I have admired Russell's work since I started reading CCC in 1979 -1980. Enjoyed his contributions when he moved on to Motor, anyone remember him in all his stringy height running a Midas (minute MINI based coupé) as a long termer? I believe it's fair to say that Russell's unique writing style helped to shape the following generations of journo's. I am sure that Russell was the first to use such phrases as "stonking", "nuggety" and "tactile" to describe the driving experience and was light years ahead of his pipe and slippers colleagues. He was the sort of writer that made you buy a magazine and search out his article, be it about rally Lada, 911 or a bicycle, because you knew it would be engaging, witty and off centre. Deepest condolences to his family, friends and anyone who knows him.
