Question

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to spray their door protection strips? I had them on my DBM MY99 and they really helped to protect the car in car parks and because the car was a dark colour, they didn't look that bad. Now I have a silver My02, they look horrible. I haven't put them on the car yet, as I want to colour code them first.

I went to a body shop tonight and they said that for £80 they would spray them, but it would be at my own risk if the plastic melted or bubbled.

I'm thinking I might try it myself, but was wondering if anyone had done the same.

Ta muchly

Gareth,
I wouldn't bother trying yourself, I guess the bodyshop would use a plasticiser in the paint, so that the paint is a bit flexible, you wouldn't. Pay and get a professional job, I'm pretty sure they'll stand up to a baking, after-all, if your car had them on, and it went in for a small repair that needed baking, they wouldn't take the strips off would they!

Cool

Good point!, What about the glue that is on the back of the strips, won't it melt that, or make it less sticky? Does £80 sound ok, or should I shop around?

Thanks again
Gareth.

I would say that if you know the work of the people that quoted £80, then go to them, there's not a lot in it to be saved is there, and it's less agg! It might be worth getting them to fit them aswell.

Cheers, I think you've made my mind up. I'll get them to spray them and hope for the best.

Thanks
Gareth.

There was a thread on this subject about three weeks ago where I described how I sprayed mine quite succesfully, have a look. It's a lot cheaper!
