Default Fit transponder to new cut key?

Hi, I got a replacement / additional key cut as I bent my original (just a plain key for £5) it unlocks the doors and starts the engine but immediately cuts out - the guy thought if I had the original fob on the same key ring it would work - I assume the transponder isn't close enough?

What would be the best course of action to combine the new key with the transponder - can I use the original key casing somehow?

Many thanks

as long as its on key ring it works fine thats what i do as it needs to be close to ignition,

is it the one button fob you have? as the blades screw out and swap over

I have the original fob on the same key ring, the new key starts the car but then it immediately cuts out (I've managed to bend the orignal key back which does still ), I have the two button fob - Cheers
