Default vosa v.i.c check - advice please

I think my car will end up being a cat c so it will need a v.i.c check, what do they check - things like decat etc?

Do I need to do it ASAP or only for when and if I plan to sell the car?

From a perspective of someone who works in car insurance:
The VIC check only needs to be done if you plan to return the car to the road. Technically if you are selling the car, you do not need to do it, the new owner would need to if they plan to use the car on the road (so you dont have to if you plan to use it for track only, for example).
When we write off a car we give the person this leaflet, issued by VOSA, https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...__English_.pdf
Have you been given that? If not give it a quick read.
It should be a simple process to get your car back on the road

Was the V5 updated to show the latest engine no? I think its best to VIC the car as you wont have a V5 until it gets done.

As others have said, it's simple and doesn't take long, it's mainly to check its identity and make sure you're not attempting to get a stolen car on the road with a different identity. Expect checking of vin plates etc.
